Moore Brothers

Very little is known about the Moore Brothers who operated a pottery at Bleak Hill Works on Elder Road.  The Bleak Hill Works in Cobridge produced white ironstone and earthenware.  All of the white ironstone found marked "Moore Brothers" was produced in Cobridge.  

Samuel Moore founded the St. Mary's Works, Longton in 1862 and took on his son, Bernard, in 1865. They marked their wares as Moore & Son. Samuel died and in 1872 Bernard Moore and younger brother, Samuel Vincent Moore, partnered to continue the St. Mary's Works in Longton. They produced and became famous for artistic porcelain, raised flowers/applied floral encrustations and cherub centerpieces.  Their wares are marked "Moore Bros." and they did not produce white ironstone.

It is unknown if there is a family connection between the Moore Brothers of Cobridge and the Moore Bros. of Longton.  The Moore Bros. operated for more than 30 years and was more well known than the Moore Brothers who were in business for 4-5 years.
