William Livesley & Co.

Willliam Livesley was a partner in Livesley, Powell, & Co. in Hanley.  He left and emigrated to the United States, eventually settling in St. Johns, Quebec.  He managed the St. Johns Stone Chinaware Co. until 1877.  He had a couple of failed businesses in Montreal in the late 1870's and eventually purchased a manufactory in St. Johns in 1880 and named it the Canada Pottery.  William Livesley began production at the Canada Pottery in January 1881 and sold the pottery to Charles E. Pearson  in October 1882.  William may have continued to work for Mr. Pearson until 1885 and in the pottery trade in general until 1887.  In 1889 William Livesley was in poor health and retired in East Liverpool, OH.  He died in 1891 at 81 years of age.
