Notes
Willie Pub Scene. William Ridgway & Co. registered this design on October 21, 1851 #81057. Barrow & Co. produced this pitcher circa 1855.
"Holy Willie's Prayer" is the name of a poem by Robert Burns, regarded as the national poet of Scotland and the inspiration for the design of this pitcher. The poem satirizes Willie Fisher's religious hypocrisy, contrasting his public prayer—where he thanks God for choosing him for salvation while damning others—with his secret sins of drinking and adultery.
